When you have kids in the house, you can’t help but worry about what they are up to and how safe they are, especially when you are not watching over them. Kids care more about fun than safety, thus you cannot take any chances on their safety. After all, it is you who will run around seeking solutions when make messes or get injured.
One of the items you can consider is the sofas. Kids enjoy jumping on couches while in the living room and they do not know how to maintain them clean. They will spill drinks on them, drop food items and sit on them with dirty clothes, and step on them with dirty feet or shoes. It doesn’t matter how many times you tell them it is wrong, they’ll do it anyway. What you can do to make them enjoy and reduce your stress levels at the same time is to invest in good quality leather couches that are easy to clean and sturdy. Alternatively, select slip covered sofas whose material is stain resistant for easy cleaning.
Another thing to specially consider is your coffee tables and cabinets. It is not a great idea to have sharp edged furniture in your home, mainly when you have tiny ones who are teaching themselves to walk. Sharp edged furniture is hazardous, very painful when a person runs themselves against its corners, and it can cause serious injuries. Instead, purchase round and oval shaped tables and have them cushioned if you can to make them dull, and cupboards with blunted edges. This way, if your kids get very rough, the risk for injuries will be less. Do not purchase cupboards for your home when you have young kids, but if it is inevitable, make sure they are very heavy and not placed in rooms where kids often go.
The kind of flooring you choose when you have kids around is also critical. The most suitable type of floor to have when you have kids is one which is slip resistant, easy to clean, and warm. Hardwood floors can easily be cleaned, but they are very slippery particularly when a person is in socks. Concrete floors are also easy to clean, but can get very cold and freeze your little ones’ feet. Choose carpet tiles since they are easy to clean, slip resistant, and warm on the feet.
When you have kids at the crayons stage, your walls will be a source of stress. To maintain your sanity, coat your walls with a type of paint that is easy to clean in the rooms where they visit the most or install chalkboards on the walls to make everybody happy. Again, it doesn’t matter how many times you tell your kids not to do stuff, they will always find a way to annoy you. Be wise!
